if.... (1968)
This project was inspired by the 1968 British independent film if..... Directed by Lindsay Anderson and starring Malcom McDowell, if.... won the Palme d'Or at the 1969 Cannes Film Festival, and became a hallmark of what critics coined the "Angry Young Men" film movement of Great Britain in the 1960s.
At the time, the film was subject to much controversy, recieving an "X" certificate for its portrayal of violence and homoeroticism. But as the footage featured here demonstrates, a contemplative, surreal tone characterizes much of the film, showing us a distinctly late-1960s view of British adolescence.
